AFP is supposed to be a community, and a community helps one another. There are many ways to bind together to help one another, and those ways should at least be explored. This thread seeks to identify ways to help one another achieve financial security, and seeks a method (and this may not be possible) by which members could collectively invest – even if just mental power -- together in worthwhile projects that start small and end big. The first question is seemingly a stupid one, but it’ll have to do: If you could invest $1.00, what would you invest it in? Remember. We are only chatting here, and throwing around ideas, that is all. The second question is: If you could start your own business, what would it be, and why? In time, we may run across someone on the site who has experience or good questions and suggestions that will help along the way. Everybody has a dream…

If I were going to invest a dollar, I'd buy one zillionth of one share of Google.

When I was a kid, I was going to start a health insurance company for pets when I grew up.  I forgot about the idea after several years until I heard on the news that someone had actually done it.  Man, was I kicking myself!

I'd love to own a restaurant, except for all the risk and headaches (ie. staff issues) that come along with owning a restaurant.  I just think it'd be great fun!  I love to entertain and cook for people.  I love to meet new people too.  But it would be such long hours, and I'm too dang old for all that!

Southern cooks are the best. No disrespect to my northern friends; but who else knows what to do with okra?

I've grown okra before, and if you don't harvest it in time, it gets long and hard. I don't know why okra does that.

I'm not really so much of a good southern cook, although I've learned a few tricks from some of the women in my family.  I can make pretty good corn bread and okra.  You're right about okra, OWO, you have to pick it at just the right time and you have to cook it even faster, unless you freeze or can it.  I've only fried chicken once in my life and it was good, but my mom never really fried stuff when we were growing up or cooked southern food.  She's from Massachusetts and is Italian.  She and her mother are/were excellent cooks.  My Nonni (grandmother) owned a catering business for many years.  I learned a lot of my skills from them.  I also worked at a 4 star hotel for a while, so I learned even more about presentation and having a meal be about more than just the taste of the food.  I've been told I'm a good cook and I think I am, although I'm always learning.  I love to have parties at my house and pull out all my fancy linens and dishes.  By adding a little flair with things like that, candles, a good bottle of wine, an everyday meal can become something really special.  Even if it's just for two.  If I did ever have my own restaurant, it would be small, intimate, Italian inspired fare.  It would be unlike anything else around.
