Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban (22 January 1561 – 9 April 1626) was an English philosopher, statesman, and essayist. He is also known as a proponent of the scientific revolution. Indeed, according to John Aubrey, his dedication may have brought him into a rare historical group of scientists who were killed by their own experiments. (Wikipedia)

  • A prudent question is one-half of wisdom.

  • Certainly the best works, and of greatest merit for the public, have proceeded from the unmarried, or childless men.

  • For also knowledge itself is power.

  • Friends are thieves of time.

  • I will never be an old man. To me, old age is always 15 years older than I am.

  • If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world.

  • If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts, but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties.

  • Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is.

  • It is as hard and severe a thing to be a true politician as to be truly moral.

  • It is impossible to love and to be wise.

  • Knowledge is power.

  • Nakedness is uncomely, as well in mind as body, and it addeth no small reverence to men's manners and actions if they be not altogether open. Therefore set it down: That a habit of secrecy is both politic and moral.

  • Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

  • Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.

  • Rebellions of the belly are the worst.

  • The genius, wit, and the spirit of a nation are discovered by their proverbs.

  • The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.

  • There is no comparison between that which is lost by not succeeding and that which is lost by not trying.

  • Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable.

What is this about? For a minute I thought you were going to go into genealogy. I'm a Bacon. I can't personally claim Francis, he never married and there are no recorded offspring. Funny I was just discussing him with an acquaintance last week.

Francis Bacon may have had siblings, so CC, you may be a sideline.

That's me, always on the sideline.

Unless his parents were John and Margaret Bacon....probably not, as far as siblings go.

There is a high probability that there was also a Francis Pigg. What would that do for your appetite?

I found this kind of interesting, I can still find no mention of This Francis Bacon in my line of ancestors, but I do see that it was the with the 17th generation of Bacons that we migrated to the this country. I'm a little disappointed in the last name of that grandmother though.....Blowers...hmmmph....c'mon Irish, give it a shot. ;)
