ANDERSON, IN - Plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging the eligibility and qualifications of Kris Ockomon to serve as Anderson Mayor based upon statutory residency requirements are hoping for a speedy resolution to the case. A pre-trial conference via telephone is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10. Special Judge Michael Peyton and attorneys for the plantiffs and defendants are expected to participate.
"Our question is whether Kris Ockomon was a legal resident of Anderson before he filed as a candidate for mayor," said John Suko, one of five plaintiffs. "Our actions are motivated by our concern about Mr. Ockomon's residency and our strong belief in the need for the courts to determine the issues raised by our lawsuit. At stake is the honesty, integrity and quality of Anderson city government. Will our city's future be based in deception or will it be based upon the needs of 58,000 residents?"
Speaking on behalf of the plaintiffs, Mr. Suko also voiced a desire for the speediest resolution possible to the legal question of Mr. Ockomon's residency. "We have instructed our legal counsel to work for an immediate trial on the issues so that our city may continue to build upon the successes of the past four years and hope that Mr. Ockomon's attorneys will do the same."
David Brooks, lead attorney for the plantiffs, said that actions by the defendant delayed efforts to hear the matter prior to January 1. Mayor Kevin S. Smith is cooperating with Mr. Ockomon to every extent possible to expedite a determination by the courts.

I've contacted Mayor
I've contacted Mayor Ockomon's office to see if they have anything to add from their side.
What I saw last week, though, is that he wanted to just get on with things. Wish I had someone there in that building every day. :)
Also, I'm confirmed for the interview, just haven't set a date yet. More details to follow.

FTFY.
Just what are we saying here? We are claiming the mayorship for Smith, poking Kris Ockomon in the eye, and loading the sentence with bafflegab so that the only thing it says is, 'I am ruling from exile and you can jam it sideways if you don't like it because I have no intention of working out a solution which is best for the community."
I'm giving it to you as it
I'm giving it to you as it came over the wire. I am, though, letting you know where it comes from. That's where the reader comes in (especially so early into this process), people like you Bard, tearing it apart or praising it or whatever - adding your side to it, though.
In the past the 'journalists' were the be all and end all, the last word when it came to what was collectively known as the truth. More and more, though, it's a group of people looking into things and coming up with some sort of answer, or at least a close look at the problem.
Does anyone think the submitted by near the top might be confusing to someone not accustomed to AFP? That is, would they think this is something I wrote?
Also, does anyone know (I
Also, does anyone know (I should, I guess, having gone to J-School and all... ;) if Mayor's keep the title like Presidents?
Believe it or not, I don't have an AP style manual hanging around. And while we're on it, should we come up with our own stylebook for AFP? Most newsrooms have one...
Let this thread drift in a thousand different directions, all productive.
1) What do they call
1) What do they call Giuliani?
2)Nope, if you allow authors a byline or actually label them 'author', I think 'submitted by' is fine for submissions. I'd have to go to a doc's office to check on this, but I think that's what Reader's Digest does.
If a candidate was invalid,
If a candidate was invalid, why and how were they allowed on the ballot in the first place?

Allegedly they falsified
Allegedly they falsified information, and no one challenged it. Until now. fireguy says you have 14 days from the date of the election to challenge the results. Otherwise they stand. I'm not sure how that bit of IC would figure into this whole snafu.
