Since we have so many great

Since we have so many great fire fighters on this site, if enough asked, I might be persuaded to show the whole scene of the Elwood Sunsets.

Backstory on those - I was out walking around one day last summer with the new Nikon D80 that had been loaned to me by Nikon for my work with Muncie Free Press. I saw someone had 'the bucket truck' out so I wandered over.

I later found out the Snorkel is one of the oldest active 'bucket trucks' in the state of Indiana. From the 1950s, I believe.

Anyway, I wandered over and began snapping shots as a few firefighters tested the equipment and practiced repelling  repelling (?) down from the bucket (about sixty feet in the air) to the ground.

I ended up introducing myself to Ben Clark, who was practicing that day. As we talked, I mentioned that he probably wouldn't be able to take me up ... Before I knew it, he asked if I wanted to go up. Heh. Having a fear of heights, I shook my head up and down while saying, "Ummm, no..."

I decided to go up, though, and I'm glad I did. (The going up and coming down parts are the freakiest for me. I can't imagine jumping over the side...)

I shot a few (hundred) shots that day.

Fast forward a few months. It was getting toward sundown and the sky was right for sunset pics and on my way to the newsroom, I saw he had the Snorkel out again. I rushed over, not wanting to miss the sunset.

Clark was kind enough to let me go up again. I think he was getting bored as I asked to wait a little longer (just a little longer) so that I could get a good range of sunset pics.

Those might be some of the best pics I ever take. Here's one of Ben Clark coming down the Snorkel...

There are 1,000s of more

There are 1,000s of more photos like these on the DVD - 1024x768 size so you can print an 8x10 for personal use only.

And yes, there will be a 2008 Anderson Year in Review... ;)

The little video here doesn't really do it justice, imho.

Why pay $35 to a newspaper for a single print when you can purchase a DVD chock-full of local images for only $19.95 (+ tax)?
