MUNCIE, IN - The Advertising Federation of East Central Indiana honored three individuals for their outstanding contributions to advertising and service to the organization and the community at the ADDY Awards Banquet, Feb. 23.
Kerry Shaw was the 2008 Silver Medal recipient. He is recognized for his outstanding contributions to advertising and his activity in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. He attended Ringling Art School in Florida and is a graduate of Ball State University majoring in graphic arts and photography.
Shaw was a designer with Haines, Wilson, Lukens and Grady Advertising Agency before moving to Ball Corporation to become their director of communications, design, photography and printing services. He became director of publications in 2003 at Anderson University after serving as manager and graphic designer for several years.
His expertise in graphic arts and photography are well known in East Central Indiana. He has won many ADDY Awards during the past 25 years for Anderson University, Shaw Designs, and Ball Corporation.
Shaw has been a member of the Advertising Federation of East Central Indiana for 32 years. His creative talents were tapped for the first ADDY competition held by the Muncie Ad Club in 1983. The club's archives are filled with evidence of Kerry's creative work on behalf of the club.
As an active member of the College Avenue United Methodist Church since 1980, he donates his time and skills to his church for their promotional materials and has held many volunteer positions. He serves on the College Connections Board and the United Methodist Men's Group..
The 2008 President's Award was presented to Bill Glaser, sales manager for Peak Outdoor Advertising, for his extraordinary service, long-term leadership and commitment to the growth and professionalism of the Advertising Federation of East Central Indiana. He has been an active member of Ad Fed since 1998. As treasurer of Ad Feds Board of Directors from 2000-03, he helped shape and develop their current 5-year strategic plan by sharing his insights, expertise and business skills.
In 2005, he returned to the board and now serves as chair of the Government Relations Committee. He monitors local, state and federal legislative issues affecting advertising and reports these issues to the Board of Directors. He has taken a proactive approach during 2008 to monitor a possible advertising tax by communicating with our local state representatives.
Glaser is a dedicated and committed ten-year member of Ad Fed. He promotes the organization through donation of outdoor boards, consistently brings prospective members to monthly program meetings and supports the club's activities through active participation.
Jeff Renoe was awarded the 2008 The Outstanding Student Award. This award recognizes a student member who has been active in Ad Fed of ECI, has provided exceptional service to the club and has served as an outstanding leader to others pursuing studies in the advertising profession.
Renoe has been a member of the Ball State University AAF Chapter since his freshman year. For the past three years, he has regularly attended the Ad Fed program meetings. He helps sell opportunity tickets at the meetings which fund the Ad Fed scholarship program. He has been a volunteer for the Ad Fed Auction, ADDY Preview Night and the ADDY Banquet set up.
His leadership skills are evidenced by the coordination and set up of the ADDY gallery at the 2008 Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce/ADDY Preview Night. When thanked for his volunteer activities after the ADDY Preview he responded, "I should be thanking you for allowing me the opportunity to give back to Ad Fed."
For the last two years, Renoe has entered the ADDY student competition and encouraged other BSU AAF chapter students to enter. Renoe is a recipient of a silver ADDY in 2007 and a gold ADDY and Student Best of Show in 2008.
Ad Fed of ECI is part of the American Advertising Federation, a national organization that promotes excellence in advertising.
