Volunteers for the clean-up are needed for fostering and Saturday’s clean-up. You can volunteer by calling Brad Cox, deputy humane officer, at 765-648-6304. “We need 20-25 volunteers for the effort,” says Cox. Cox estimates 60-75 dogs will require fostering/transport for the four day clean-up. Dog food will be provided.

    just out of curiousity,

just out of curiousity, shouldn't they have cleaned the shelter when they had to destroy all of those animals earlier this year?

    Good question.

    Good question.

    The shelter has been

The shelter has been neglected for so many years.  They are always full and there would be no room to clean correctly with all the animals in there as they have no place to put them.  From what I understand each kennel had several dogs and a lot more in each kennel than they should have.

    Oh, I just thought they

Oh, I just thought they would have had to clean after all of the dogs and cats that had to be destroyed, I know that one of my cousins had a dog that had Parvo and the vet told her to clean everything before releasing her dog to her and her hubby. It is my understanding that with Parvo, the animal has a lot of extra body fluids, which is how it is passed on to other animals.

You are correct on the Parvo

You are correct on the Parvo thing.  they did not kill all the animals, just enough to bring it down to the level it was supposed to be and also killed the animals that were sick and could not be helped.  Again it goes back to Davis from the previous administration.  He should have been fired long before the Smith administration and I am not be any means taking up for the smith administration.

I sent an email asking about what they need volunteer-wise on friday and saturday.

I don't believe that is the case. They don't have extra, they vomit and have diarrhea, leaving them dehydrated. They won't drink or eat, and if not treated early enough, which in our case has been a fluid treatment, they can die within a couple of days of the first signs of symptoms.  The only treatment I have seen has been injecting fluids under the skin to keep them hydrated until the virus passes.  So I don't see how they could have extra bodily fluids, they would have less, and what they leave behind is infected.  It's recommended if you have had the parvo virus that you clean every area the dog came in contact with with bleach.  Even then the virus 'supposedly' can live for up to 9 months in its environment.  Apparently this includes your yard. (per the vet we took our last parvo infected animal to)

One of my cats last year

One of my cats last year died of parvo i believe. He wouldnt eat for a few days and started acting really weird, before i could get him to the vet he died. Didnt pass it to any of my other cats though. Speaking of cats, i only have 2 now. Kicked 2 of them out after they went to the bathroom on my new furniture, actually the throw blanket i have on the furniture but still smelled terrible. Been 2 days since i booted them and havent seen a spot on the blanket since then. Had to wash the blankets several times, finally got sick of it and put them outside. Heck, they seem happier outside anyway. Plus i dont have to constantly spray air freshner to get rid of the smell they left behind.

In case you didn't know, the

In case you didn't know, the cleaning/move was postponed last night with no new date set. Some of you are on the right track, it sure must be easier to clean them with no animals because the director got so mad that the poorly planned move had been postponed, he held an unscheduled mass euthanasia this morning. Estimates on animals put down range from 20-40. Funny how you don't see the city putting out the truth about the matter huh? Those in charge at the shelter are clueless about animal welfare and the mayor's office is in complete denial! The only way to affect change is for those of us that are outraged to speak out...and loudly.
