Anderson has still yet to replace $25 an hour jobs, most of the jobs they have brought in are only $7.50 an hour jobs, going backwards in my book.
Plus look at our unemployment rate, then the city imposes the new trash tax, increases our utility bills, it is nearly impossible for some of us to pay them before, now I am afraid of how many people will be living without neccessities in order to pay their bills. If you look at some of the elderly, those that do not have GM insurance, they have to pay for their medications, plus their household bills, what if it comes down to having water/electricity or their medications, which one do want them to pick?
A lot of it is up to people as well. Take, for instance, the poster who said they were making a (pretty good) living selling eBay.
Could the city maybe find some way to do training classes - not for eBay but technology or job training ...
That would cost money, though.
So maybe it is up to the people of Anderson? (Not saying anything bad about those out there looking for work. If something's not working - no pun - right, you need to change your approach up...)
Thoughts?
There are not many options in Anderson, so maybe they should start thinking about moving out of Anderson? You know leave their families, their homes, maybe that would mean more abandoned homes, foreclosures, etc.
WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IS FLAMILYS MOVING IN ONE HOUSE SO THEY CAN MAKE IT WHEN WINTER COMES YES THERE WILL BE ADANDONED HOMES BUT YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO LIKE THE WALTONS. PUTTING MONEY ON ONE GAS BILL IS BETTER THEN TWO .I SEE IT COMMING IF THING DON'T CHANGE SOON.
That's what I was saying - make options. We're moving from Industrial and Manufacturing and have been for a while... So it's either service type jobs (which might not be in abundance at the moment), school (like Zia and others) or information technology - ie computers and the Internet.
Again, I'm not downplaying those out there looking, etc. I feel blessed for the skills I have.
If Anderson isn't heading in the right direction, what can we, as the people of Anderson, do to make it better?
I guess that was at the heart of my poll...
its not just anderson , times are hard all over.
There is no plan and achievement can only be measured against goals. We have heard about bringing businesses here but we have not marketed that which we offer which is superior to other cities/towns. Topography and transportation access. Since we have ceased, as a country to be a manufacturing economy, we have to focus on service and distribution. We have the near ideal situation for distribution but we have no businesspeople working with the City to promote our assets. Instead, we have people bickering over keeping old gymnasiums open for posterity' sake, educational results that would scare any parent away and cops/politicians getting busted for DUI's at a greater rate than the general public. Wow, that's going to bring them in droves!
We are adrfit as city and we could be, with guidance from a real city/county council and mayor, growing while other communities whither.
