Muncie Mayor Appoints Members to Committee

MUNCIE, IN - Mayor Sharon McShurley has appointed members to the reorganization committee established when resolutions
were passed by Muncie Common Council and Delaware County Council this year. Per Indiana Code 36-1.5-4-16 ".three members shall be appointed
by the executive of each political subdivision participating in the reorganization. Not more than two of the members appointed by an executive of a political subdivision may be members of the same political party."

Gary Addison, a retired Muncie Community School teacher; James (Jim) Gooden, a long-time citizen activist who has served the Muncie community
on various boards and commissions; and Dr. D. Eric Kelly, Professor, Department of Urban Planning, Ball State University have agreed to serve
as the city's representatives. "I am delighted at the enthusiasm these individuals have expressed to me about the chance to serve the City of Muncie in this capacity. The City of Muncie and Delaware County have an opportunity to shine, not only in the state, but nationally, as we advance toward modernizing our governmental bodies. I have asked Gary, Jim, and Eric to become familiar with the Kernan-Shepard Report and Indiana Code 36-1.5-4 and encouraged them consider this as an opportunity to create a model for the rest of the state to follow," stated Mayor McShurley.

"The Muncie Common Council and the Delaware County Council should also be recognized and thanked by the citizens they represent as this move was not only progressive for all of us but the for the State of Indiana," added Mayor McShurley.

Animal Shelter Superintendent Announced

MUNCIE, IN - Mayor Sharon McShurley recently appointed Ron White as the new Superintendent of the Muncie Animal Shelter. Mr.
White will manage all aspects of the Muncie Animal Shelter including the day-to-day operations of the shelter, public relations, and oversight of
animal care and control. Mr. White replaces Karen Gibson as the previous director.

Ron White brings a wide-range of experience to the position of superintendent. He has managerial experience and is active in the community. He currently is serving on several boards including the Unity Center, Weed and Seed, and Industrial Neighborhood Association.

Mr. White also owns and operates White's Martial Arts here in Muncie. White has expressed his dedication to the City of Muncie and the Muncie
Animal Shelter.

"I am excited the mayor has shown faith in me. I want to collect ideas and best practices from different shelters including the Humane Society to continue to move our shelter in a positive direction."

Last month, at MFP's sister site - Anderson Free Press - I started a monthly feature where I gather questions from the audience and take those to the Mayor to be answered on video in an interview. I just heard today that Muncie Mayor Sharon McShurley is interested in doing this here at Muncie Free Press.

So, if you have a question for the Muncie Mayor, leave it here. I can't guarantee all questions will be asked, but I'll see what I can do.

Mayor McShurley announces appointment for Director of Personnel Department

MUNCIE, IN - Mayor Sharon McShurley announces the appointment of Mr. Wayne Huffman as Director of the Personnel Department for the City of Muncie. Mr. Huffman is appointed to succeed Richard Ivy, who served under former Mayor Dan Canan.

Huffman most recently served as the Human Resources Supervisor for the City of Anderson. His background includes more than twenty years in the U.S. Air Force in operations, recruiting and security. He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Resource Management along with specialized training in leadership and management.

As Director of the Personnel Department, Huffman will be responsible for all functions relating to personnel and human resources for the City of Muncie. The Personnel Department maintains personnel records, oversees the recruitment, screening and hiring of new employees, coordinates training and professional development; ensures local, state and federal compliance and coordinates the hiring and screening process of new employees. Huffman will assume duties Tuesday, January 22, 2008.
