ANDERSON, IN - The City of Anderson and International Association of Firefighters Local 1262 have reached a contract agreement that will govern regulations and policies for the next three years. The agreement covers 120 Anderson firefighters, and was chiefly negotiated by Steve Priser, Director of Personnel and Insurance for the City of Anderson, and Matt Cole, President of IAFF Local 1262.
Highlights of the new contract include:
ANDERSON, IN - The fall campaign for United Way of Madison County will officially launch Tuesday, August 26 with a luncheon for volunteers and supporters at 11:30 at the Anderson Country Club.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A horrific collision on Satterfield Road on April 29, 2005 changed Vanessa Richardson’s life forever. Her bloodied head was smashed through the windshield, knocking out several of her front teeth. Perhaps most compelling, Richardson is an epileptic who was in remission at the time, and the violent collision triggered the return of epileptic seizures, which she has suffered ever since the accident. The defendant in the case has admitted liability.
PENDLETON, IN - Indiana State Police Troopers arrested two suspects for trafficking with an inmate at the Pendleton prison this weekend. On Saturday, August 16, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Andrew Sparks was dispatched to the Pendleton Correctional Facility and arrested Stephanie Lewis, 39, Indianapolis, for trafficking with an inmate.
ANDERSON, IN - During a time of year that lends itself to widespread celebrations, the Labor Day holiday can quickly turn tragic when an impaired motorist gets behind the wheel. According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI), the 2007 Labor Day holiday period (6:00 p.m. August 31 through 5:59 a.m. September 4) was the second most deadly time of year on Indiana roadways, resulting in 11 alcohol-related fatalities and 18 alcohol-related collisions.
ANDERSON, IN - Mayor Kris Ockomon cut the ribbon at a ceremony to officially dedicate the upgraded effluent filter facilities at the Gene Gustin Way Water Pollution Control Plant. Members of the Board of Works and City Council, which approved this project to improve the city’s infrastructure, joined the Mayor and other guests, including representatives from the design firm Greeley and Hansen and the contractor M.K. Betts Engineering and Contracting, at the August 6th ceremony.
ANDERSON, IN - Governor Mitch Daniels joined executives from Nestlé USA today to announce the company's plans to expand its 880,000 square-foot beverage production facility here, creating nearly 135 new jobs by 2011.
The company, which is on track to begin full production at the central Indiana facility later this year, will invest $200 million to add additional beverage production and distribution capacity at the 190-acre site located approximately 45 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
ANDERSON, IN - Richard Mort and the Mort Family have been selected by Mayor Kris Ockomon as recipients of the Chief Anderson award, the highest honor bestowed by the City of Anderson. The Chief Anderson award recognizes extraordinary leadership that serves to positively impact Anderson’s future.
“Mr. Mort and his family were instrumental in shepherding development to the Southern edge of Anderson, beginning with the location of Interstate 69, and continuing even today with the announcement of Nestlé’s expansion,” Mayor Ockomon explained.
ANDERSON, IN - Indiana State Police Trooper Kendrick Donald’s K-9 "Murtaugh," who took to the streets in June, assisted the Anderson Police Department on Friday, August 8th with a large cocaine arrest.
Murtaugh alerted on a U-storage bin in the 3700 block of MLK in Anderson. The amount of drugs located by Murtaugh was 275 grams of crack cocaine, and 235 grams of cocaine. Officers also recovered $2000 in currency, one handgun, and two ballistic vests.
- Kerry is a contemporary Chistian worship pastor and a concert and recording artist from Waterville, Ohio. He writes many of the songs he records and is also a songwriter for Songs of Love the Medicine of Music. Kerry is one of many musicians who writes and records one-of-a-kind songs for chronically or critically ill children. Kerry's music, his gentle spirit, and his love for God will bless those who hear him. Kerry has a heart of compassion for others-especially children. He has often performed in pulic schools.
ANDERSON, IN - The City of Anderson will dedicate the upgraded effluent filter facilities at the Water Pollution Control Plant, 2801 Gene Gustin Way, at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Mayor Kris Ockomon will participate in the dedication ceremony. Tours of the plant will be given for visitors following the dedication.

ANDERSON, IN - The United Way of Madison County and JobSource are seeking volunteers and corporate sponsors for the 2nd Annual OPERATION Weatherization on Saturday, November 1st.
- ANDERSON, IN - Approximately 250 golfers and volunteers participated in one of Madison County's premier golf events on Friday, July 11th raising $24,236 for both the United Way and the Chamber of Commerce.
Cash prizes were awarded to the following:ANDERSON, IN - Earlier this week, Mayor Kris Ockomon announced a leadership change at Anderson Municipal Light and Power, naming Bruce Boerner to fill the position of Superintendent, formerly held by Tom Donoho.
ANDERSON, IN - Storm damage on June 6 and June 9 which brought a federal disaster declaration into effect in Madison County also brought about increased hours at the City of Anderson’s Yard and Garden Recycling Center, located at the former Emge location at 2000 West 8th St. Downed trees, limbs, and other natural debris such as wood chips, grass, and leaves can be brought to the recycling center from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday for the rest of the month of June.
Fees for the Yard and Garden Recycling Center are as follow:ANDERSON, IN - Tommy J's Pizza Cafe, which opened on December 7, 2007, is planning to expand this summer according to Ben T. Jewell, one of the owners.
The restaurant, located on 1000 W. 3rd, has started work on an outdoor eating area in front of the restaurant. Business has been good so far according to Jewell, who runs the pizza cafe with his brother, Terry Poole, and father, Tom Jewell.
They're expecting to get their liquor license any day now and plan to offer beer and wine with lunch or dinner.

Ockomon announced today the addition of a new business toANDERSON, IN - Mayor Ockomon in partnership with Urban League of Madison County and Security Dads, will be hosting the first City sponsored Youth Summit, Thursday, April 17th, 6pm-7:30pm, in the City Hall auditorium.
ANDERSON, IN - The City of Anderson announced funding support to open a sub-center of the East Central Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the City Hall Building. This office will open on April 14, 2008.
ANDERSON, IN - Gateway Association, Inc. would like to you to visit our new child care center and enroll for childcare and summer camp. The Children’s Center is a child care facility, licensed by the State of Indiana. The Center is located at 1215 Jackson Street in First United Methodist Church of Anderson, and serves children from age 2 through 8. Child care openings are currently available.
MADISON COUNTY, IN - The Highway 38 Sale goes from Noblesville to New Castle on State Road 38. Not only are there hundreds of roadside rummages, but many stores along the route open for sales. It takes place May 2-4.
In Pendleton, vendors also line the downtown area. If you'd like to get a booth, call Jessica Greene at 778-9898.
Down the road is the big sale at the Markleville Community Park. It averages about 40 vendors.

ANDERSON, IN - Mayor Ockomon is exploring other business models for the Anderson Animal Shelter. Specifically, the model of the Hamilton County Humane Society is being reviewed. “Other shelters have been successful by combining county forces,” says Ockomon. “We need to look to plans that work and implement them.”
