CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, IRAQ – The Iraqi army's 10th Division sent out their ground troops and air support assets to conduct the first large-scale combined-arms live-fire exercise, nicknamed Operation "Lion's Roar" in southern Iraq, April 19.
"They did outstanding," said Maj. Gen. Michael Oates, the 10th Mountain Division's commander, said about the Iraqis' efforts during the training event. "The Iraqi army is here to defend its citizens and protect their borders."

WASHINGTON, DC - Somali pirates fired on a U.S.-flagged merchant vessel south of the Gulf of Aden today, military officials reported.

WASHINGTON, DC - Coalition forces are helping Afghan civilians and soldiers alike with medical outreach that is curing illnesses, preventing diseases and keeping soldiers and security forces on the job. A Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan dental team provided treatment for Afghan civilians and soldiers in rural villages, while another unit worked to prevent diseases in the area.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An investigation into a Feb. 17 coalition air strike in Afghanistan's Heart province has confirmed that 13 noncombatants and three enemy fighters were killed, military officials reported.

In a field near the district's only schoolhouse, the three stepped from the helicopter into a foot of crunchy, melting snow and onto the land of the Mangal tribe.

BAGHDAD INTERNATIONAL ZONE, Iraq – Locked away deep inside a tan office building, behind walls, guards and bomb-sniffing dogs, is the home of the Multi-National Security Transition Command – Iraq, and a small group of Airmen that assists in instructing the Iraq military to function independently.KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan contractor was killed by an improvised explosive device just before Afghan national security forces and coalition forces were attacked by insurgents during a patrol in the Shaheed Hasas District of Oruzgan province, Feb. 14. The district is located approximately 140 km north of Kandahar.
KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Afghan national army commandos with the 207th Commando Kandak and coalition forces captured a suspected weapons facilitator in Anar Dara District of Farah province, Saturday. The district is located on the far western side of the province bordering Iran.
The Commandos raided the suspect’s compound while coalition forces formed a security perimeter. After the combined force positively identified the suspected weapons facilitator, the Commandos took him into custody.
