Anderson City Council 9/11/8 - Full - Part 2 - Amendment 39-08 regarding Anderson Animal Care and Control is tabled after much discussion.
Issues raised -
- Fees for adoptions (or whether it should be changed to be donations only.)
- Who makes up the Animal Care and Control Board - Anderson only residents?
- Part One
- Part Two
- Part Three
Councilman Pepelea - said it was up to the safety board according to state law and that there shouldn't be a city ordinance. He also brought up that two Cities (Elwood and Alexandria?) owe around $100,000 for Animal Control contracts they had with the city of Anderson.
(__??__) It was recently found that three contracts with Anderson Animal Control weren't paid, but they weren't pursued for one or two years. The third case was brought before the county commissioners and they received $80,000. It costs $535,000 a year to run Animal Care and Control.
Joseph Newman, council President, said he wanted councilman Eicks questions answered. Questions continue.
(__??__)Fees are needed to pay for the services.
Councilman Eicks brought up the poor and whether they would be able to afford a fee to adopt.
(__??__) It would cost citizens more at a private vet to get the shots and other things given to animals before they leave Anderson Animal Care and Control.
End Part Two
